WoW Guide: Raid Boss Strategy - Karazhan- Prince Malchezaar

The Prince is located at the top of Karazhan and proves to be a very hard fight throughout its 3 stages. He summons Infernals from the sky, Axes to aid him, and deals heavy melee damage.
The raid positioning is key for this fight, but once everybody know where to be (and even more where NOT to be) it becomes a still hard but enjoyable fight.

HP: 1138200
Damage: 6638-9385

1- Abilities:

Enfeeble:

Every 30 seconds, Prince enfeebles 5 random payers. This reduces their life to 1 and reduces healing effects on them by 100%. When it wears off everyone's life is put back where it was. It does not hit his current target and he stops using Enfeeble under 30% life.

By itself, Enfeeble doesn't really do any damage. The problem occurs when you get hit by Shadow nova or an Infernal's fire nova with only 1 life point, as it obviously kills you.

Enfeeble usually comes shortly before Shadow Nova, so any melee DPS should immediately back out and wait for the Shadow Nova to happen or for Enfeeble to wear off before going back in.

Shadow Nova:

Shortly after Enfeeble, or about every 30 seconds, Shadow Nova hits everyone within 30 yards for around 3,000 damage and knocks you back quite a ways.

Since it only hits people within 30 yards all ranged classes should be able to avoid it. When it hits melee, heal through it. Worst case scenario would be that they are knocked back into an Infernal's fire nova. Try to position yourself so you are thrown against a nearby wall. Never get hit by Shadow Nova while you are Enfeebled as it would mean you are dead.

Shadow Word: Pain

Prince randomly casts Shadow Word: Pain an nearby targets, doing about 1,250 damage per tick. This is a dispelable magic debuff.

Dispel it as soon as possible. Make sure you are not getting close to dispel while Shadow Nova is cast.

Summon Infernal

Prince summons Infernals from the sky throughout the fight. When they land they puls a fire nova around them doing 1,750 damage per tick. Their location is completely random and not necessarily on top of where the player is currently positioned. They despawn after 180 seconds.

You need to stay outside of the fire Nova. Since their position is random, they can make the fight go wrong at anytime. Sometimes, you just get unlucky as they fall in the wrong place, preventing you to be close enough to cast and heal the melee DPS, but if you go closer, you can get hit by Shadow Nova.

The tank might need to adjust its position depending on where Infernals land to allow ranged classes to stay at max distance to avoid Shadow Nova

Communication watching where they land and avoiding the them is the key.

2- Preparation:

\Make sure the tank has a stacked tanking group with Blood Pact and maybe a Shaman for Grace of Air. Devotion Aura isn't really an option since the Paladins are staying at Max range throughout the fight. Assign one healer to heal the damage from the Axes in the Last phase of the fight.

3- Strategy:

Have the main tank charge in, get agro and position Prince in the middle of the east wall. The tank should always have their back against a wall to avoid being knocked back by Shadow Nova. All ranged classes should stay at Max range throughout the fight.

The tank takes a ton of melee damage so keep those heals on them. Move into range to dispel the Shadow Word: Pain when it applies, but get back out of the Shadow Nova zone right away.

The first thing that happens is an Enfeeble. Five random players are now at 1 life. If any melee classes get Enfeebled, they need to run away from Prince before Shadow Nova hits. Taking a Shadow Nova while Enfeebled is a guaranteed death.

Don't try to heal the Enfeebled players, they cannot be healed so don't waste your mana on them, as long as they don't get any other damage they will get back to their life level after it wears off.

Shortly after the Enfeeble Prince uses Shadow Nova dealing about 3,000 damage to everyone within 30 yards and knocking them back in the process. Ranged classes should never get hit by Shadow Nova, they should be able to stay out of range.

The first Infernal is summoned and lands in a random spot. Sometimes it lands far away and you can ignore it, but it also often lands in a bad spot. If it lands on the melee, move Prince to the north or south as necessary. Ranged classes should get out of the Infernal's Fire Nova if it lands near them, keeping in mind their max range towards Prince at the same time. Dodging the Infernals can become a huge hassle as the fight goes on. Sometimes they land in all the wrong places and there's little you can do about it. Usually they land in places where you can adjust your positioning and move around them. As long as the positioning is setup so that ranged classes can stay at least 30 yards away to avoid Shadow Nova, it works.

DPS Prince down to 60% life. At 60% he summons his axes to his hands and starts dealing increased melee damage to the thank. Nothing else about the fight changes but he starts doing a ton of damage so keep that tank alive. This is the best time to start using cool downs. Get him down to 30% as quickly as possible.

At 30% life, he drops his axes. The axes start targeting random players and hitting them for about 200-500 damage. They can't be targeted, so they can't be killed or tanked. One healer needs to heal anyone who is getting hit by the axes. Use Evasion, Deterrence, and maybe even Limited Invulnerability potions to help reduce the damage from the axes.

Under 30% he no longer uses Enfeeble but Shadow Nova continues to happen. Don't let anyone die to axes, keep dodging those Infernals and take him down the last 30%.

Even the most experienced raid can wipe to bad luck. Dodging the infernals is probably the hardest part of the fight. It take some practice adjusting positions, but as soon as everyone knows the fight, the only thing that can happen is bad luck with the Infernals.
